Understanding Healthcare And The Law

I hear so many people complaining about not being able to find lawyers to file medical malpractice cases. They complain about hospitals; elders complain about the poor healthcare they are receiving. The problem is getting worse all the time, not better. So, do we have no choice except to keep quiet and continue paying ridiculous healthcare premiums while we get mediocre healthcare at its best? Today I want to address this problem, square on.

Healthcare has changed indeed. And in many cases, not for the better.

We now have new ways to diagnose, new treatments, greater success with some of the worst co-morbidities, and at the same time providers who have stopped being caring, giving, compassionate nurses to become all-knowing providers who now have a laptop and can prescribe medications to mask our symptoms! Woo Hoo! Have we ever advanced! Not for nothing, but it seems to me we may be receding in some very important parts of healthcare.

I have even witnessed physicians enter an exam room with their trusty laptops and start looking for what they can prescribe. Is there now some type of competition for who can prescribe the most medications in a specific time frame?

Physicians should know better, and they can be reported and should be reported by other healthcare professionals when they ignore patient needs and only adhere to the practice of being a star in a specific pharmaceutical company.

But, it gets worse. Now we have physicians who have family practices. These practices are usually manned with Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants or both. It does not take a rocket scientist to do that math. If you have three or four providers working under you in your practice, of course, more patients are being seen, and more patients mean more money! But the quality of actual healthcare seems to suffer. It is time for patients to learn what they can do about substandard care. I am in the process of recording some videos on this very subject, with a history of why ethics is so important in medicine. I will be explaining all of this and why healthcare professionals feel they are untouchable and, most importantly, exactly why they are not!
